I looked at a lot of free and inexpensive art programs that had positive reviews but I finally decided to go with Affinity Designer plus Affinity Photo and Publisher because I really wanted a vectoring program and I liked that the ‘Affinity Trinity’ programs effectively replace Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign when used together. Affinity Designer Reviews. Inkscape was not capable of CMYK colour print. Oh, and Affinity likes RAM. The fact that the software was designed for tablets is a good thing. Very pleasant software, the one-time fee is very useful. Layout all your screens, pages, menus and other items in a single project across any number of artboards.

Macmuser May 18 As I and many others have said, the interface icons are far too small to be usable on a 5K screen. It is sooooo frustrating as it is the same for all Affinity products on the Mac.

DragonMaster Mar 2 One hell of a fine app!!! Finally a huge challenge to Adobe and other pretenders. This is a gotta have. Community and Developer very, very responsive and interested in the user. I love Affinity Photo. As a professional photographer I was able to replace Photoshop with it. Although, sometimes it crashes not too often though. I would love the developers to improve its macro Actions in PS capabilities. Highly recommend AP. Awesome photo editing software, but not that Photoshop alternative too many people say.

For 50 bucks no photo editing software give more for the money. Since , when it was released, it receives regular updates and is getting better at every year. Together with Affinity Designer vector graphic and Affinity Publisher desktop publisher , it is part of a promising ecosystem.

Serif did an impressive job. Those who cannot invest anymore in the Adobe CC suite can step down easily and embrace Affinity Photo, as workflows are very similar and learning curve is very smooth.

According to my experience, compatibility with PSD format is good, and layers structure is generally well respected. Even if tools are all present, their performance is somewhat less impressive ex. No photo catalogue features are included. Affinity Photo claims to be fully compatible with plugins and brushes from Photoshop but, according to my experience, this compatibility doesn’t work properly or I was just unlucky.

Import operations are either impossible to be completed or imported items work differently from expected. Those who have heavily invested in that must think twice before making the jump. I tried this software for a short time. I was very impressed all round with it. I am still searching for a good software to create images for publishing books, covers for books and printable images.

I may still reconsider Affinity but just not sure it will satisfy my desires. I have been using PS Elements 13 and it did not meet my needs, no nodes or cymk colour. I want fine art as well as backgrounds. I have been trying Clip studio Pro as well.

DragonMaster Sep 6 One fine app!!! Great support. Unbelievable price. Regular updates. This is a gotta have for any Mac user. Price is incorrect. Macintosh-Sauce Jun 24 Affinity now sells Designer and Photo directly from their website.

Try before you buy. I have all three applications for macOS Derekcurrie Jun 19 Affinity Publisher is out today, June 19th! Looking great. Wonderwarthog Jun 8 Best of the best. Adobe is gone from my Harddisk, good riddance. Affinity Photo is way zippier anyway. Teksestro Jun 7 Amazing software, by a fantastic company that deserves support. WordWeaver Jun 6 Not CS 5.

Yes, that long ago. However, with CS6 being dead in the water with the release of macOS Aside from the fact that I have an established workflow and years of experience using Adobe Photo — which makes it hard to want to switch to another app — one of my biggest concerns with switching to a different graphics editor, is its compatibility with my current plugins.

So, I am just wondering how many of the aforementioned plugins are fully compatible with Affinity Photo without any hiccups or bugs. Can someone here please let me know? Also, given my current experience with Adobe Photoshop, what kind of a learning curve should I expect with Affinity Photo, were I to decide to switch to it?

Thanks in advance. DonkeyKong Dec 16 I tried about any other image editor and those are out of bounds for me for several reasons. So, which to choose. It is pretty simple. If you need a PhotoShop alternative, then by all means go for Affinity Photo. It is on par on features and plugin support. But keep in mind you are facing a steep learning curve. Ones mastered, it is the uber image app! If you need a very good and fast image editor doing the basics, you can choose Pixelmator Pro.

You learn to use it in minutes and you never get lost. Zx81 Nov 10 Jumping ship from Lightroom, I have been experementing with a few possible replacements and opened the same Sony Raw file without any adjustment I know this is tricky, and that every app does a little ajustement of its own, but I did my best ; and this is how they work in real life. Of all the softwares I tried, the best cleanest, sharpest file were Capture One and, not far from it but not as clean, On1. Affinity, Pixelmator, Luminar, Acorn did not match the exported files from those two.

Gary30 Sep 25 It a good app until you need to start selecting areas or mask. Then, it seems pretty primitive compared to Photoshop.

Can edit in addition to retouch your projects efficiently. Consists of excellent photo manipulation tools like eraser, brush, blur tool, healing tool, and clone application. It is equipped with magnifying glass and paint bucket.

Got various filters that may be located by navigating to the Filters menu. A fruitful Degree Photo editing. Multi-Layered composition with Focus stacking. Also it brings amazing feature of Panoroma stiching.

Industry: Marketing and Advertising. Time used: Less than 12 months. One purchase and you jump right in without worrying about renewing payment plans.

At first it was a bit of a shock having such a high quality app for a table because it does things that you might not expect it to to do while at the same time not behaving exactly how you would expect.

I switched my main work station from an older macbook pro the a new Overall, the app is decent but it needs to be easier to learn and operate. Certain features are easier than others but the program is still good to work on small projects. It allows you to complete projects using minimal features on portable devices. So you can basically design on the go. The features although it allows you to work on the go are not easy to figure out. Therefore the program has a learning curve that takes longer than others which is a little off-putting.

Time saving: – Repetitive tasks: There are some intuitive features I’m learning about, while I was creating a template for printable stickers, I discovered after one ‘duplicate’ was dragged under the last, the next one would go to the space under that one with just using the duplicate again. Saving time as I learn more and more. This is the easiest to learn in graphic design software. I like that I can edit parts of a design and link or embed the update. I have created book covers for print , e-book templates, and recently a sticker series convention logo sticker items for event items.

It has helped me save time revising templates instead of building from scratch with each one , and I was able to create exactly what the client wanted. I’ve also created marketing graphics for social and launches of books and media for clients. I can create custom templates to save time with each project and there are a lot of built in custom templates already. The main thing I like the least is that the Affinity software is not ‘one’ integration.

It is three different programs. This is not my favorite thing for a few reasons, but, mostly I wish they were one, because I have started at least three projects in the wrong one of the three I have.

The software is very easy to use, especially on the iPad, it allows me to create images for my clients and that at a lower cost because it is to be purchased only once without subscription. I did not encounter any major problems with affinity the software is very positive compared to its price. It is almost at Illustrator level, but the cost is minimal and it’s a one-time purchase. I use it a lot to create custom assets for my blog post. Some small features are missing like the object tracing or the shape builder but those are needed only for advanced users.

The fact that the software was designed for tablets is a good thing. Easy to use and allows very precise handling. Very pleasant software, the one-time fee is very useful. Industry: Health, Wellness and Fitness. I love using affinity and I love that I own the software and create with it often even when I was between jobs. The program is very easy to learn and utilize for design work. The interface is very intuitive and organized.

It is comfortable to create with and it has integrated photo editing as well. The thing I like least is it still lacks in a few grid enhancements that other programs have for shapes and extra functions for blending but these aren’t exactly necesary.

The program does as it should. Industry: Information Technology and Services. Not as well known as Adobe Photoshop. FYI, Serif is the company behind Affinity and they are well known in the graphics arena. Industry: Packaging and Containers. I started using Affinity Designer because is a smaller app than others than do practically the same for me.

Affinity Designer is light, fast and new. When I say it’s light is because it’s much lighter than it’s competitors and updates are not a headache. Is faster than others trying to do simple tasks. Some products I have used are lagging when trying to do a font search. It’s new, and that it’s the best feature of all. Affinity Designer came out to the market as a fair competitor to Illustrator. Oh, yes Full of bugs, I hope they could fix them soon. It doesn’t have a great community online YouTube videos, discussion blogs, etc , it’s not as popular as Illustrator or Corel Draw.

Affinity Designer is lighter and faster. It sure doesn’t have all the things that Illustrator offers, but it works for me. This is a great alternative to illustrator. The affinity tools are easy to learn and similar to the Adobe suite. So much more cost effective as well. I’ve been looking for an alternative to Adobe illustrator for years now, and Affinity Designer is the one.

The interface is much faster to open and lighter in feel, and it offers pretty much all the features one could want from a vector editor.

You can jump between vector and raster quite easily too. Affinity Designer is very inexpensive, but you wouldn’t know it from using it. This is a full-on, best-in-class vector graphics application for designing logos, icons, UI, mock-ups and more. While Affinity Designer is very similar to Adobe Illustrator, it does behave quite differently in some ways, and will take a little longer to adjust coming from Illustrator.

That being said, it’s still very easy to use. Overall, this program has been more beneficial than any other art program I’ve used. I create coloring books and the vectoring tools have made the process so much faster, easier, and cleaner looking than the hand-drawn rastered techniques I was using before. This is the easiest vectoring program I’ve ever used for lineart and I’m amazed at its affordability compared to insanely-priced subscription services like Adobe.

I only have two gripes with this program. When I’m done with a lineart, I want it to be one layer– not thousands. Would really like to see this issue fixed.

I was starting to have glitches with my very old copy of Photoshop and there was no way I could afford the subscription for the latest version of the program. Affinity Designer is a great one-time purchase software for graphic design. It has more features than the free program I was using previously and has allowed me to create more detailed designs for use in my business.

I don’t have any formal training in graphic design so learning a new program can be difficult. I tend to turn to Youtube for tutorials and unfortunately there aren’t a lot of tutorials for Affinity Designer compared to some of the other major design programs out there.

At the time I installed Affinity Designer, they were offering an extended free trial. This made it easy to install and try out the software before purchasing and the lengthy trial period gave me time to learn more about how to use the software at my own pace.

When my trial expired, Affinity was still offering a great deal on the purchase price of the software so I happily purchased. The main alternative I considered was Adobe who charge a subscription for use of their software. I prefer a one-time fee over a subscription as the subscription price quickly surpasses the cost of purchasing the software and becomes an ongoing business expense.

I was looking for program with more features as my design needs changed in my business. I needed to be able to work with images as well as vector files and Adobe Designer seemed to be a good fit. I’ve been using affinity for about 3 years. Similarly, Serif Affinity Designer supports several layers and packages a generous collection of raster tools you can use to create a realistic art.

Of Course, You may also adjust the exposure, shadows, highlights in addition to white balance. Moreover, Draw Persona is your default one and it encompasses all the vector tools. Built for your workflow Thousands of designers around the world told us how they need their graphic design app to behave. Timesaving functions The UI has been created to give you the best user experience possible so you can spend more time creating.

Any device, anywhere Whether on Windows, Mac or iPad, the file format is exactly the same. Rock solid vector tools Affinity Designer is full of tools meticulously developed for achieving high productivity, while maintaining percent accurate geometry. Powerful contour tool Effortlessly add a contour to any object or increase the width of single open curves.

Advanced grids and guides The options you have for setting up grids and guides is almost unlimited. Unlimited artboards Layout all your screens, pages, menus and other items in a single project across any number of artboards. Linked symbols Symbols allow you to include unlimited instances of the same base object across your project.

Live pixel preview Pixel perfect designs are assured by viewing your work in pixel preview mode. I have used a number of free and paid for vector graphic apps with similar functions, and have to say that Affinity is one of the best! It runs smoothly and everything is wonderfully easy to learn and use. The price is probably the best part, not overly expensive, and comes with mostly everything you could ever want.

The developers are constantly working on improving it and adding functionality. So I can not recommend it enough! I have been using Affinity for 2 years now, I stumbled upon it while searching for an alternative to the adobe suite.
